Earwig & Crawling Insect Help in King, Pierce & Thurston Counties

An outdoor insect in the living room does not always mean an indoor infestation.

Photos and short videos are welcome by text. They’re helpful, never required.

A bug near the door may be a one-time visitor. Finding the same kind repeatedly in a bedroom, laundry area or garage calls for a closer look at identification and access. You should not have to know its name to ask what is happening.

Call or text Modern Pest Control at 253-414-1987 for a consultation and professional opinion. Tell us where you see the insects and how often. Photos or a short video can help, but are optional.

Earwigs: recognizable pincers and sheltered outdoor hiding places

European earwigs are brown insects with pincers at the rear. Plant debris, mulch and boards near a foundation can provide shelter.

If you are seeing them indoors, note the nearest doorway or ground-level window and whether the same area is affected each time. We can discuss accessible shelter and entry conditions before deciding whether further service is warranted.

Ground beetles: beneficial hunters that sometimes wander inside

Ground beetles include dark, active beetles that hunt other insects. Regional guidance treats them as beneficial and does not recommend routine control.

A beetle found inside still deserves identification. If it is a ground beetle, help may focus on the immediate visitor and how it entered rather than assuming the property needs a spray.

Field crickets: jumping visitors and repeated entry

Field crickets are dark jumping insects. They can occasionally affect food or clothing indoors. Regional guidance emphasizes checking entry points and reducing nearby hiding places.

Describe whether you have actually seen a cricket or only heard a sound. A recording may help establish the pattern, but sound alone may not identify the source.

The pattern helps separate a visitor from a recurring problem

Note whether the insect appears beside an exterior door, in a stored item or repeatedly deeper inside the home. Include whether activity follows moving boxes, bringing items indoors or changes around the building.

Tell us about different-looking insects separately. One treatment assumption should not be applied to every small crawler simply because they appeared in the same room.

Useful checks around the entrance

From normal accessible areas, look for damaged weather stripping, screen gaps and debris resting against the foundation. Reduce unnecessary boards or stored material near entrances without blocking drainage or ventilation.

Start with the places where insects recur. High openings, electrical equipment and confined spaces can wait for an appropriate inspection.

When to ask for more than simple removal

Contact us when the same insects keep appearing, several rooms are affected, belongings show damage or you cannot determine what you are finding. Share any steps already tried and whether they changed the pattern.

We can discuss identification, entry conditions and whether a targeted service would add value. Tell us about children and pets before work or monitoring is arranged. Ask what signs to watch for afterward and when to report continued activity.

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Common questions

Does every earwig sighting need treatment?

No. The frequency, location and surrounding conditions help determine whether prevention or further service makes sense. One insect is different from continuing activity in the same room.

Should all beetles around the foundation be eliminated?

No. Some, including ground beetles, are beneficial. Identifying them helps avoid treating an occasional visitor as a different pest problem.

Can I send a video instead of a photo?

Yes. A short recording of the insect or concern is welcome by text. It is optional, and it may still take a closer look to confirm the identification.

What about tiny jumping bugs or gray bugs that curl up?

Those may belong to a different group. Our moisture-associated pest guidance covers springtails, pillbugs and sowbugs. You can contact us without choosing the category yourself.
